Elmer and Mary Feltman Health Care Professional Scholarship Fund

The Elmer and Mary Feltman Health Care Professional Scholarship Fund was established by Lawrence Feltman to honor his parents. This scholarship will be awarded to those who have been accepted into a medical school, nursing program or EMT program or other healthcare program. Elmer had a sixth grade education and was attending seminary but left the seminary to work on the family farm. Mary worked for Ferro Manufacturing for 45 years and was an advocate for the simple pleasures of life including gardening and cooking. Elmer and Mary both liked traveling the county by rail and took many trips to the western US and Canada by train. Elmer and Mary had two children: Lawrence and Howard who still live on the family farm. Elmer spent the rest of his life working the farm. Mary passed away in 1996 and Elmer died in 2009. Their son Lawrence who created the fund in their honor, worked for many years as an emergency room physician at Central Michigan Community Hospital and then McLaren Central Michigan. Lawrence spends his winters above the arctic circle living off the land. He chronicled that life when he wrote the book “Alaskan Wilderness—A Sole’s Journey” under the pen name Alpha Camasca. Howard who took over the family farm spends his spare time writing a comic book series “Silverwolf”.
